An industry tool that we couldn't live without, Google Analytics is a vast source of information that - when used correctly - gives a rich insight into how websites are performing.

Logging into your analytics account can feel a bit overwhelming as you’ll be bombarded with information ranging from bar graphs and line graphs to percentages: ‘What does this all mean?!’, I hear you shout.

Well, luckily Google are here to help you get started by providing an excellent (and free) course curriculum aimed at beginners through to ‘Power Users’. Within the course, you will be using the Google merchandise shop as the test case when working through the lessons, which means that you can learn by doing rather than just watching and making notes.

We have been through all of the academy courses and would recommend that the course for beginners is more than adequate if you’re looking to pull through the key website stats to present to your team.

What does the course cover?

The course consists of 4 units:

> Introduction to the System
> The Interface
> Basic Reports
> Campaign & Conversion Tracking

Each unit has associated tests at the end to check you understand how to apply your learning to real-life scenarios. After successful completion of each unit, you move through to the next part of the course.

What do I need?

As long as you have a Gmail account, you can register for Google Analytics for Beginners. You simply log-in each time using this account and it will retain your progress.

It’s best to set aside an hour or so for each session, and you can finish a unit per session.

After you finish, we expect you will be able to navigate the system, pull off some useful stats and set up some campaigns.
